Dissertating

I have to admit that I am nerdy enough that I signed up to receive the word-a-day from Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary. Basically, they send an interesting word a day via email, and it’s always interesting to see what words they pick and if they are in any way part of my regular vocabulary.

Today I received a word that is not part of my vocabulary, even though it should be: dissertate. Dissertate is the verb form of dissertation, so it is the act of writing a dissertation. So, now that I have taken a break from my dissertating to write this post, I will get back to dissertate some more (*pushes glasses up on nose while sniffling slightly).

You would better play the role if you never pushed your glasses up at all and always looked up from your research at people over your glasses. One who dissertates must also be a renaissance man of sorts so I commend to you also for your daily regime the following website:

  2. Does subscription to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary word-of-the-day program make you a nerd? If so, I guess I’m one too. :-)

  3. Thanks for the nerd tips! And yes, Jay, I’m afraid you are in this club. A hearty welcome indeed.

I always look over the tops of my glasses and I read Wes’s blog. Does that make me a nerd too?
