We Just Missed Moonwalking for Michael
I read on NPR today that a large gathering of people in Mexico City just set the world record for the most people who danced to Michael Jackson’s song Thriller: this time 13,000. When we were in Mexico, we were surprised how many tributes there were to Michael Jackson after his death, and the NPR [...]

H1N1 continues to spread, but not in Mexico
Thursday WHO declared the swine flu a global pandemic. It is interesting that this has come more than a month after the peak in Mexico, where it first reared its head.
I also find it interesting that when this flu first broke out in Mexico, it was on the front page of every big news source. [...]

Short-Term Missions Trend Getting Press
We have written before about the trend in short-term missions, a trend away from short-term missions experiences and toward long-term missions relationships. This trend has been producing a flurry of blog posts, articles, and even books, and it seems like people outside of Christian circles are even recognizing the trend, as indicated in this recent [...]

The Poor Get Hit the Hardest
Some new sources are saying that the response the swine flu was an overreaction. Others are saying that if extreme measures had not been taken, the outbreak could have been a lot worse.

Who Sneezed this Time?
There’s an old saying: “When the U.S. sneezes, Mexico catches a cold.” I would guess that some Mexicans would resent this statement, but it points to a relationship of Mexico’s dependence, economically and otherwise, on its giant northern neighbor.
But with the spread of the swine flu from Mexico to the US, look who sneezed this [...]

Swine Flu Music
The swine flu has been made into a song. That’s right, Stephan Zielinski, a computer programmer and writer, has programmed his computer to assign various instruments to the different properties of the protein in the swine flu. This CNN article explains more:
“Zielinski took the various categories of amino acids, the building blocks of the protein, [...]

Only Seven Deaths Confirmed
I think it is important to note that the number of deaths caused by swine flu worldwide has been reduced from 20 to seven.
This is very good news, and pretty impressive given that there was an outbreak in a city with a population of over 20 million (35 mil. in surrounding metropolitan area).
Mexico’s Health Minister [...]

Flu Update
We are pretty impressed with the measures that Mexico City has taken to prevent the spread of the flu. Today, the city has ordered all restaurants to suspend sit-down services, and closed all gyms, sports clubs, swimming pools, and pool halls. Also, ALL schools across the whole country are closed. I don’t know if you [...]
